Manual Outlook Express 5, set-up guide

Setting up your new BT Yahoo! mail account is a very quick and simple process. Please choose the email application you would like to configure for your new BT Yahoo! Mail account:

Outlook Express 5.0 - PC
Outlook Express - Mac
Eudora Pro versions 5.1 and higher

If you are running a different version of Outlook Express or are running another mail program to the ones above. You will need to consult your email application user manual.

 
 

Outlook Express for PC



Step 1 Open Outlook Express, click [Tools] then select Accounts

Step 2. Click the [Mail] tab, then click [Add] and select Mail

Step 3. The wizard will start. Type in your name then click [Next]

Step 4. Enter your email address (yourname@btinternet.com) then click [Next]

Step 5. Enter the BTopenworld mail server address: mail.btinternet.com then click [Next]

Step 6. Enter your Username and Password then click [Next]

Step 7. Click [Finish].

Step 8. To complete the account creation process click [Tools] then select Accounts

Step 9. Click the [Mail] tab, then click [Properties]

Step 10.Select the [Servers] tab.
Click the My server requires authentication box to place a tick inside.
Click [OK]



Repeat this process for each mail account you want to set up.

Outlook Express for Mac


Outlook Express allows you to add a new email account to your existing profile, so you do not have to replace your current settings in order to send and receive Yahoo! Mail messages. To set this up, follow these steps:



  1. From the Tools menu, choose "Accounts."
  2. Select the "Mail" tab.
  3. Click the "Add" button.
  4. From the Add menu, click "Mail."
  5. In the Display Name text box, type your name, and then click "Next."
  6. In the email address box, enter your full Yahoo! Mail address (e.g., member@btopenworld.com or member@btinterner.com).
  7. In the Incoming (POP3) box, type: mail.btinternet.com
  8. In the Outgoing (SMTP) box, type: mail.btinternet.com
  9. Click "Next."
  10. In the Account Name box, type your full Yahoo! Mail address (e.g., member@btopenworld.com or member@btinterner.com).
  11. In the Password box, type your Yahoo! Mail password.
  12. If you want Outlook Express to remember your password, then check the box.
  13. Do not check the "Log on using secure password... " box.
  14. Click "Next."
  15. Click "Finish."

To control deletion of messages from the Yahoo! Mail Server, follow these steps:

  1. From the Tools menu, choose "Account."
  2. Select the "Mail" tab.
  3. Double-click on your Yahoo! Mail account.
  4. Select the "Options" tab.
  5. 5. In the Server Options section at the bottom of the window, check "Leave a copy of each message on the server" if you want to save your Yahoo! Mail messages on both the Yahoo! Mail server and on your local computer. If you would prefer to have your messages deleted from the Yahoo! Mail server after you have received them in Outlook Express, do not check this box.


Eudora Pro Versions 5.1 and higher


Versions 5.1 and higher of Eudora Pro allow you to set up multiple email accounts, so you don't have to replace your current POP and SMTP settings in order to send and receive new Yahoo! Mail messages.


  1. Click on the "Tools" menu and select "Personalities."
  2. Right-click in the "Personalities" box (on the left of the screen) and select "New."
  3. The New Account Wizard will take you through the set up.
    Use the following settings:
    • Personality Name: Yahoo! Mail
    • Account Settings: Select "Create a new account."
    • Personal Information: Enter your name.
    • Email Address: Enter your Yahoo! Mail address (e.g., member@btinternet.com or member@btopenworld.com).
    • Login Name: Enter your full Yahoo! Mail address.
    • Incoming Email Server: Type mail.btinternet.com and make sure that "POP" is selected at the bottom.
    • Outgoing Email Server: Type mail.btinternet.com.
    • Check the box next to "Allow authentication."
  4. Click the "Finish" button when you are done.

To control deletion of messages from the Yahoo! Mail Server, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the "Tools" menu and select "Options."
  2. Click the picture on the left that says "Incoming Mail."
  3. Check "Delete from server after..." if you want your messages to be deleted from the Yahoo! Mail server once you have received them Eudora. Do not check this box if you want to save your Yahoo! Mail messages on the Yahoo! Mail server as well as on your local computer.
  4. Check "Delete from server after..." if you want your messages to be deleted from the Yahoo! Mail server once you have received them Eudora. Do not check this box if you want to save your Yahoo! Mail messages on the Yahoo! Mail server as well as on your local computer.
